Twiga Foods
Twiga Foods is a Kenyan agritech company revolutionizing food distribution in Africa. Founded in 2014 by Grant Brooke and Peter Njonjo, Twiga addresses inefficiencies in Africa’s agricultural value chain by connecting small-scale farmers with retailers through technology. The company operates a mobile-based platform where farmers can list their produce, and retailers can place orders.
Twiga eliminates middlemen, reducing costs for retailers while ensuring farmers get fair prices. Its supply chain optimization allows fresh produce to be delivered directly to retailers within 24 hours, tackling post-harvest losses. In addition to fresh produce, Twiga has expanded into FMCG distribution, offering retailers access to affordable goods.
With funding from investors like Goldman Sachs, IFC, and TLcom Capital, Twiga has raised over $100 million, including a $50 million Series C round in 2021. The company is working on expanding across Africa, aiming to build sustainable food systems for urban and rural populations.
